CHENNAI OPEN 2019 – an ATP Challenger Tour Tennis Tournament.

Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) will conduct the second ATP Challenger event – Chennai Open Challenger 80 Tennis Tournament 2019 from 4th to 10th February 2019 at the internationally renowned SDAT Tennis Stadium at Nungambakkam, Chennai. Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and All India Tennis Association (AITA) have approved the event. This event will carry a prize money of US $ 54500/-. All 48 main draw players will be provided hospitality. Besides the India players, a number of talented players from 20 countries around the world – Australia, China, Dominican Republic, Egypt France, Italy, Japan Korea, Lithuanaia, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia Slovenia, Spain Turkey Tunisia, Taiwan, USA.

India’s number one and in form player Prajnesh Gunneswaran, World no.109 will be the top seed. He is third Indian in the last 5 years besides Somdev Devvarman and Yuki Bhambri to qualify for the singles event of a Grand Slam event. Yuichi Sugita of Japan ranked 145, Courentin Moutet of France ranked 151, Martinez Pedro of Spain ranked 165 Mohamad Safwat of Egypt ranked 186, follow the seeding in that order. The other Indians in the fray are Saket Myneni who is on a comeback and the young Mukund Sasikumar. Since cut off world ranking is 341, the quality of tennis is going to be intense and gripping. We will have another four Indian players in the Main Draw through the Wild Card route. The doubles field will also have a number of Indian players. Rogerio Santos from Portugal will be the ATP Supervisor.

The matches will be played between 10 am and 6 pm each day and the finals both singles and doubles are scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday 10th February 2019. Entry to witness the tournament for all the days is free.
